I was an artist creating sculptures and paintings at the time. Unless I sold a piece these creations suddenly became just stuff. Accumulated objects. Completely eliminating the energy from which it sprouted.

My love of art began at a young age. At 11 yo I was drawing on my jean jackets and by 14yo painting on my dr martens in art class.

By 16 I was enthralled with the editorial makeup and hair of Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Anna sui runway shows. I was a 90s kid after all. I would cut my hair and my friends' hair and decided I would skip expensive art school. I pursued sculptural hair by enrolling in hair school and began working at creative editorial hair agencies. I was working on models, my work was in magazines and on the runway. I sole owned a hair studio by the age 25yo and my 2nd hair studio at 38. I was a Hair Artist. My love of art and portrait sculpture  and painting again began sometime between my hair career and during very late nights. Using old wigs from my kit and molding clay it became a new found inspiring love. Soon I had an abundance of canvases and heads all around my house. I became a bit overwhelmed when I had ideas and knew I had to create yet another object to store or pressure to sell.

Then one day I had a wonderful moment where I was cleaning out my closet and had a pile of clothes to donate. A couple of old jackets and sweatshirts I liked enough but wanted to spice up somehow. I began sketching ideas onto the fabric and had been so excited to be painting again but not having this large object to store or sell. This could be worn and salvaged.  A whole new look. Wearable art. Art that you can take out of a space. This could be seen, traveled, witnessed and experienced. The idea invigorated me and allowed me to explore the many sides of upcycling fashion. I began sewing through the help of my dear client/friend. Since then I haven't stopped exploring the many creations possible to reinvent.

Repurposing allows me to recycle ideas. To destroy and create and create and destroy. Bringing new life to something old. Reinventing and reimagining. One of a kind pieces each unique. Never seen before eccentric and sustainable pieces. My life's artwork is all visible through my pieces. My style, colors, hair, beauty and sculpture are all relevant in this one piece. It makes me happy to share this.

My emphasis on wearable art started with a want for less waste.
